American Romantic Era

       "It may serve, let us hope, to symbolize some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening close of a take of human frailty and sorrow." (Hawthorne 44) The paragraph emphasizes the importance of moral values. It explains how one should be a better person and strengthen ones character. During the American Romantic era this is an example of human relations. One had to be kind and mercy-full in order to be a better person. 
       "We have wronged each other,"  answered he. "Mine was the first wrong, when I betrayed thy budding youth into a false and unnatural with my decay. Therefore, as a man who has not thought and philosophized in vain, I seek no vengeance, plot no evil against thee. Between thee and he the scale hangs fairly balanced. But Hester, the man lives who has wronged us both! Who is he?" (Hawthrone 69) Hesters husband had entered the cell and said he does not blame her on what had happened. He knows that he is old and they both have a blame in this. He seeks no revenge on her or the child, but on the father of the baby. This is another example of human relations during the American Romantic era. At this time period the romance was not the traditional type, the idea of love was different and understood in a different way.
