"A Journey Through Texas"

A Journey Through Texas is written by Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca which is about him traveling in Texas, exploring and finding information about the people who live there. Cabeza de Vaca is the speaker in this story that introduces the story in an angry tone. In the beginning of the story, Cabeza and his group of explorers wanted to visit another Indian tribe. The message was taking to long to be delivered, they grew impatient and pretended to be angry, to get the answer sooner. Once they had the approval, Cabeza moved and met the new Indians and was introduced to there culture.
The story takes place in Texas in the year of 1529. The entire purpose of this exploration was to inform others of native life. While visiting these new group of people, Cabeza records it to show the king and queen of Spain to get more money to explore. His information is brief but very interesting and safe, which makes more explorers want to come on to this trip. During the ending of A Journey to Texas, the tone changes from angry to respectful and ends with the explorers eating crops.

  1. Thank you for including the political cartoon. It made me laugh and that is sometimes hard to do with Indian topics.
